The city of Kerman is situated in the southeast of Iran with a population of approximately 350,000 inhabitants. It is a city with a pleasant atmosphere featuring mosques, bazaars and tea houses. The first carpet discovered dates back some 500 years and carpet manufacturing is an important industry for the city.
Carpets from Kerman are easily recognised as the base colour is usually red, and the pattern is dominated by a centrally placed medallion together with a wide flower-filled border. Kerman carpets are prized for their use of natural dyes and fibers, great tensile strength and abrasion resistance, and expert color combinations.
